Starting in the round…which is your favourite way?

Recently, I did a project that requires me to work on crochet animals or amigurumi (編ぐるみin Japanese) with given instructions.

Starting round in chain

Starting round in chain

The author is an American who used chain to start the round. The result of this method of starting round will give a hole in the middle of the round which will need to close it up at a later stage (see picture).

Another method is to start the round in loop(s). It can be a loop or 2 loops. Having made the desired number of stitches in a loop, the round is closed by pulling the end and the hole is eliminated right away (see picture below).

For either method, there is a need to weave in the end at the centre of the round to neaten the centre and to  secure the end.

So, Which is your favourite way?
For me, it is the loop way. It may not be easy for starter to pick up this method. And very often, I see frustration especially in a group of teenage girls but am always blessed with one who tried very hard to win praises and that helped to motivate the rest! Patience required!
